The American International Group Stock Certificate is a classic design with an allegorical Greek vignette of female characters surrounding the AIG logo.

AIG traces its roots back 90 years when an American entrepreneur named C.V. Starr founded AIG’s earliest predecessor company in Shanghai. What began as a small insurance business grew to become one of the world’s largest companies. By the end of 2007 AIG had 74 million customers and 116,000 employees in 130 countries.

AIG suffered from a liquidity crisis when its credit ratings were downgraded below "AA" levels in September 2008. The Federal Reserve on September 16, 2008 created an $85 billion credit facility to enable the company to meet obligations consequent to the credit rating downgrade, The Federal Reserve Bank and the United States Treasury by May 2009 had increased the potential financial support to AIG.
